The contribution of hard team-work has resulted in another victory for the Bristol Academy Flyers, Women’s team.
As represented by the points in each quarter, the teams went head to head from the very first moment on the court. The high tempo game driven by M Marshall (No 8) and U Strzemiecka (No 10) put the opposition’s defence under a lot of pressure. However this would not have taken place without strong assists, accurate passing and excellent reading of the game by players such as M Kowalczyk (No 11) and S Wibley (No 7). The defence communicated well (S.Keen No.4 and A.Belkner No12), under a lot of pressure form H Watkins (No 12) – one of the strongest Taunton players.
However there is still a lot of work to be done, and the season is far from over. In fact this is only the start of the blossoming team work and communication between the players of this fresh team.

Bristol Academy Flyers v Bristol Storm Bristol Derby - Part II
Bristol Academy Flyers Women’s team have once again shown their growing potential as a new squad in the National League.
Filton Ladies, led by Captain Marta Kowalczyk, (no.11) , showed how determined they are to hard work , playing their hearts out from the very first to the very last minute. This positive attitude reflected in making the opposition work even harder from the first quarter , leaving the score at 13 – 10 by the end of the period.
Some of the examples of this wonderful performance include a highly successful defence by Sophie Whibley (no 7) on Storms Tracy Colborn (no10), making the Storm player struggle in ball-handling on numerous occasions. Additionally the performances of the youngest team member, 16 year old Shanelle Barrett have made the bench jump up and down, as she beat two Storm players on a fast-break, finishing it with a strong lay-up. And few minutes later she has once again gained a turnover, went to the basket and resulted in a free-throw.
The top scorer of this match from the Flyer’s team was Mel Marshall, who has shined with her speciality fast-breaks, receiving the ball up in the air and then……. well, we could only see her back and the scoring baskets. Well done Melski!
Additional scorers for the Flyer’s team were the consistent Polish duo M Kowalczyk (11points) and U Strzemiecka (7points).
Once again it was wonderful to see in action Storm’s player Emilie Ravn, who by consistent rebounding and hard work, on attack, scored the most for Storm, 17points in total.
Scores for each quarter were as follows:-
1st 13 – 10 2nd 32 – 19 3rd 53 – 37
Final Score
STORM FLYERS
68 – 45
As it was summed up by a member of the audience “there were some amazing moments”
Only more to come from this rising team!

Bristol Academy's Women's Team have recorded a fantastic first game win in the league against PLYMOUTH MARJON.
