Under 16's
Flyers U16's team will be playing in the South West Conference this season.
We asked Coach Guy Coles what he thought the season had in store for the team.
"The Under 16's have always struggled in their league but that isn't because of lack of talent or attitude. I think it is more to do with the maturation process of a player. We are still a young club and for a lot of players when they come to Under 16's basketball they haven't experienced National League Basketball before. Because of this they haven't played enough games so are not aware of the level they need to play at to be successful. What always happens every year is that they make massive improvements throughout the season and by the end of it are challenging teams that at the start they were losing to by large margins. I hope this year we can learn from our mistakes from last season and make strides to challenge all the teams in the league from the start, not at the end".

Flyers Under 16’s
Leaky Bath can't stop Titanic FLYERS
A leaking roof didn’t stop The Bristol Academy Flyers Under 16’s from easing their way to a 5th successive league win, this time against Bath Titans. Flyers started strongly with two of their senior players Joe Packwood and Josh Rogers leading the way with some early baskets. This set the tone for the whole game as Bath couldn’t defend such a balanced attack.
In the second quarter Flyers stepped up their defensive intensity with some great hustle play from Jack Griffin and some strong rebounding from newbie Chris McMenamin. This great team play on both ends of the floor allowed Coach Reed to rotate frequently, using the whole squad to good effect.
After the game Reed was asked his thoughts on the 96-38 win for the Flyers “ Although the score would suggest we had an easy victory here I was impressed by Bath and the way they didn’t give up. I was also pleased that everyone on our squad played to the last whistle of the game and the strong team atmosphere we have is going to help us when we have to face the tougher teams”.
This win now gives the Flyers a 5-1 record, with the one loss due to an administrative error. In the eyes of the players and staff they see this team as undefeated and they are looking for the winning streak to continue well into the New Year.
Leading scorers in this game were: Joe Packwood 25 points, Josh Rogers 22, Haden White 20 and Jack Griffin 19.

Flyers weather the Storm to record first league victory
Bristol Academy Flyers Under 16’s hosted local rivals Bristol Storm in the Under 16’s South West Conference. It was the Flyer’s first home game of the season and with 2 of their starting five missing it was always going to be tough against a tough Storm side.
The first quarter started with a bang for the Flyers and they opened up a 19-2 lead in the first 7 minutes thanks to some good offense from Luke Kay and Josh Rogers. In the last 3 minutes of the quarter the Storm players rallied and cut the lead to 7, 21-14. The rest of the game was a lot more nip and tuck than the first with some great individual play from Storm player Anton Pritchard matched with some mature decision making from Flyer’s point guard Joe Packwood.
The first 5 minutes of the 4th quarter decided the game with some big plays from Kay helping to stretch the lead to 10 and this was too much for Storm. The final score was 72-63 to the Bristol Academy Flyers.
